This year, in partnership with Low Energy Designs for the third year running, 5 cyclists completed the Social South Cycle 2019!
This event involved a team of 6 (James Blackham, Owen Newton, Alan Parker, Rachel Baker, Ashley Baker and Stuart Read) cycling over 250 miles across the South West UK from 7th June to 9th June 2019 all to raise awareness and funds for Teddy20 Supporting Children with Cancer.
The cyclists started from Blandford Forum in extremely poor weather conditions on Friday 7th June. 1 snapped chain, 1 fall, 1 odd pair of gloves, 1 severe cramp and 70 miles later they reached sunny Clevedon.
Day 2 was a very challenging day for our cyclists. The extreme hills with winds they faced and managed to overcome is incredible and they should be so proud of themselves!
The team completed 92 miles, cycling from Clevedon to North Devon and back. We pulled them away from the last 20 due to high winds and safety reasons. We wanted to be able to bring them all home in one piece after everything they’ve achieved over the past couple of days.
Sunday 11th June was the return journey and thankfully the weather was on our side. 5 out of 6 cyclists completed the challenge, averaging a mighty 15.8mph and reached Blandford by 14:30, beating the first day’s time by 2 hours!
Rachel, Ashley, Stuart, Alan and James you are all amazing people. We can’t thank you enough for taking part in our challenge and raising money for children suffering with cancer.
Special thanks must go to our challenge sponsors Low Energy Designs, who have supported us for the third year running, Teddy Tour Coordinator Sophie Ferry for planning and organising and Riverside Travel for providing a minibus and driver. Big shout out and appreciation for our cycle kit sponsors: Tree Stuff, Pitmans Removals and Storage ltd, Bill Gent Painting & Decorating and Dorset Garment Printing. Without the help from all of our sponsors the event would not have been possible.
